Hillscore

Privacy Policy

Hillscore is a website that publishes analysis of publicly disclosed congressional stock trading. It has no user accounts, no login, no shop and no newsletter. This policy explains the small amount of data that is collected when you visit, and what you can do about it.

Who is responsible for your data

Hillscore is operated by Keith Edward Chester, trading as "Hillscore", who is the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR.

What is collected

Only two things:

1. Google Analytics. Hillscore uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. This collects your IP address (truncated by Google before storage), approximate location derived from it, device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site.

Google Analytics' "enhanced measurement" is on, which adds a small number of interaction events to that list: how far down a page you scroll, clicks on links that take you to another website, and downloads of files such as the CSVs on the data page. These record what was interacted with, not who did it, and none of them are tied to a name, an email address or an account, because Hillscore holds none of those.

Nothing is collected at all unless you accept cookies. Decline and no analytics script is loaded, so none of the above happens.

2. Server logs. Like all websites, the hosting provider (Cloudflare) records requests made to the site, including IP address, timestamp and the page requested. These are used for security and to keep the site running.

That is the complete list. Hillscore does not ask for your name or email, does not have accounts or forms, does not collect payment details, and does not knowingly collect anything from children.

If you email one of the addresses on the contact page, that email and anything in it is obviously received and kept while the matter is dealt with — but it is not added to any list or used for anything else.

What is not done with it

Under UK GDPR, analytics cookies require your consent, which is why a cookie banner appears on your first visit. If you decline, analytics is not loaded. Server logs are kept under legitimate interests — running a website securely is not possible without them.

Cookies

Hillscore sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics sets cookies only if you consent, to distinguish one visit from another. Until you choose, nothing loads and nothing is stored beyond what is strictly necessary; if you decline, no cookie is set at all.

Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, which is why declining leaves nothing on your device. You can change it at any time using Cookie settings at the foot of any page — that reopens the banner, and choosing again replaces your previous answer. Clearing your browser's site data for Hillscore also resets it, and the banner will ask again on your next visit.

Google's own handling of any data collected after you accept is covered by Google's privacy policy.

Who else sees it

Both are processors acting on Hillscore's behalf. Data may be processed outside the UK; both operate under standard international transfer safeguards.

Information may also be disclosed if legally required to do so.

How long it is kept

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically. Server logs are retained for a short period by the hosting provider for security purposes. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with what they concern.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask for access to any personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time.

In practice, because Hillscore holds no accounts and no contact records, there is rarely anything to retrieve beyond analytics data that isn't linked to you by name. Requests can be sent to [email protected] and will be answered within one month.

Other sites

Hillscore links to external sites, including government disclosure sources and news coverage. This policy does not cover those sites, and their own policies apply once you follow a link.

Changes

This policy will be updated when the site changes — most likely when advertising is introduced, which will add advertising cookies and require this policy to be revised before that happens.
